Notre Dame to join ACC with exception to football, hockey

Another one bites the dust for Big East basketball and the conference is beginning to resemble the old C-USA. This morning, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, Notre Dame announced that they were officially leaving the Big East for the ACC in all sports except for football, obviously, and hockey. The football team will play five games against ACC teams every year. The ACC doesn’t offer hockey, so that’s not really an option.
The Big East requires a 27-month notice to exit the league so right now it is expected that they will leave when the time is up. But, they could also pay higher exit fees like Pittsburgh, Syracuse and West Virginia did.
