svt 213x300 Stephan Van Treese granted release, leaves UofL

This news was brewing for some time now, but after seemingly months of speculation, it was announced junior Stephan Van Treese will transfer from the Louisville basketball program. The 6-8 forward from Indianapolis played in only three games during the 2011-12 season with a patella issue and once Montrezl Harrell committed to UofL, substantial minutes were going to be hard to come by for Stephan. Here’s a quote from Rick Pitino on SVT’s departure:

“Although Stephan’s playing time has been limited with injuries, he’s a terrific young man who needs to step on the court and play 30-plus minutes a game, gain his confidence and have some success. We wish him the best and will always be behind him.”

We have it on good authority Stephan has visited Bellarmine and could explore the possibility of playing for Scott Davenport’s Knights. However, SVT will most likely apply for a waiver to get the year back he lost due to injury and if granted, will have two years remaining. If not, he will only have one year left per NCAA transfer rules. Personally, I would love to see him take the floor at Knights Hall.

SVT finishes his Louisville career with 109 career points and 132 rebounds in 52 career games. We wish him all the best and hope to see him do well wherever he goes.
